Good morning, Dublin!
Is it actually happening? After what feels like a lifetime of rain, the weather boffins are whispering that today, Tuesday, March 3rd, could finally be the first full dry day of 2026.
If you see a bright yellow orb in the sky, don't be alarmed, that's the sun. We’ve got news on a massive housing pipeline shift, a legendary bar reopening, and the best ways to spend your Tuesday evening (spoiler: it involves running or reading).
⛅ WEATHER & TRAVEL:
Weather: ☀️ Dry & Sunny. After a cold, frosty start, temperatures will climb to a pleasant 11°C. Met Éireann says high pressure is taking over, giving us a rare, rain-free window.
Travel: 🚧 Duke Street Diversions: Resurfacing works continue on Duke Street (Grafton St to Duke Lane) until March 13th.
Roads: Watch out on Greenville Avenue (D8), trenching and ducting works mean local diversions are in place through the Liberties today.
📣 THE BIG SCOOP
The Apartment Capital: 98% of New Permits are High-Rise
New data from the Dublin Housing Supply Pipeline reveals a staggering shift in the city's skyline. Of the 27,000 planning permissions currently active in the Dublin City Council area, 98.3% are for apartments.
The Details:
Only a tiny fraction of new permissions are for traditional houses within the city bounds.
To manage the growing density, DCC is launching the FiXiT app this week, aimed at speeding up repairs for social housing tenants through a fully digital "maintenance stream."
The Debate: While the "up not out" approach helps density, community groups are calling for more balanced family housing to keep the city center lived-in.

The Scene: Cranes are becoming a permanent fixture from the Docklands to the Liberties as the "Apartment Era" of Dublin truly takes hold. Why it matters: Dublin is transforming from a low-rise capital into a modern European hub. The challenge now is ensuring the infrastructure (schools, parks, and shops) keeps pace with the thousands of new balconies.
