Good morning, Dublin!
If you're reading this while waiting for the kettle to boil, you're doing it right. If you're reading it at a red light—watch out. Today is a National Day of Action, and the Gardaí are out in force with a specific focus on your dashboard.
Beyond the checkpoints, we’ve got a heartwarming launch in Cabra, a major pop star landing at the Point, and a chance to play board games... as Gaeilge.
⛅ WEATHER & TRAVEL:
Weather: ☁️ Overcast but calm. After yesterday's rare sunshine, we’re back to a classic Dublin grey. High of 9°C. The rain should hold off until the early hours of Thursday.
Travel: 📱 Checkpoints Alert: An Garda Síochána is running a National Day of Action on Mobile Phone Distraction today. Expect active checkpoints citywide, keep the phone in the glovebox.
Bridges: The Samuel Beckett Bridge remains closed tonight (21:00–06:00) for maintenance. Diversions via Seán O'Casey Bridge.
Roads: Hagan’s Court (D2) is closed until 23:59 tonight. Anne Street South remains a no-go zone as resurfacing continues.
📣 THE BIG SCOOP Eyes on the Road: National Day of Action Hits Dublin
The Gist: An Garda Síochána, the RSA, and South Dublin County Council have joined forces today for a major crackdown on drivers using mobile phones.
The Details:
“A Split Second" is the theme for today’s campaign. Gardaí are highlighting that using a phone while driving makes you four times more likely to crash.
So far in 2026, 28 people have lost their lives on Irish roads. Superintendant Tom Murphy has confirmed there will be high-visibility checkpoints across all major Dublin arteries today.
It’s a fixed charge notice of €120 and 3 penalty points. If you're caught, those points stay on your license for three years.

The Advice: "Momentary Blindness" is real. Put the phone on 'Do Not Disturb' before you pull out of the driveway. Why it matters: 188 people died on Irish roads in 2025. Today isn't about revenue; it's about trying to ensure 2026 doesn't break that tragic record.
