Morning Dublin !

🌸 Spring has officially arrived, and it has arrived with a serious splash. Today is the first Saturday of spring, the post-Paddy's buzz is still in the air, and the city is handing you 14°C and barely a cloud. The Liffey is getting a boat race, the 3Arena is getting Kesha, and we've got the result on those Coolock affordable homes. Let's get into it. ☀️

⛅ WEATHER:

  • Today: ☁️ Mainly Overcast. Highs of 11°C. It’s a gray one, but thankfully the "blizzard risk" from last week has officially moved on.

  • Tonight: ☁️ Staying Cloudy. Lows of 6°C.

  • Outlook: Dry for the most part, though a light mist might roll in off the Liffey toward sunset.

Your Retirement Savings Need to Outlast You

Most retirement plans underestimate two things: how long your savings need to last, and how quietly inflation erodes them along the way.

The 15-Minutes Retirement Plan helps you close both gaps with practical guidance on longevity risk, purchasing power, and building a financial plan that doesn't run out before you do.

📰 NEIGHBORHOOD NUGGETS

Northside & Southside · Parks & Coast

With 14°C and barely a cloud, today is the best day of the year to get outdoors in Dublin. The cherry blossom is starting to come in on the Northside, Griffith Avenue is already showing early colour and should be properly spectacular in 10–14 days. On the Southside, Marlay Park (Rathfarnham) and Killiney Hill are both absolutely stunning in early spring. And if you want a coastal walk, Dollymount Strand on the Northside and Seapoint on the Southside are both looking their best today. Get off the couch.

Southside · South King Street — LAST NIGHT

Tonight is the final performance of Arthur Miller's The Crucible at the Gaiety Theatre. This production described by critics as one of the finest stagings of Miller's classic in years, closes tonight after a run stretching back to February 9th. If you've been meaning to go and haven't yet, this is genuinely your last chance. Check gaietytheatre.ie for any remaining tickets. The Gaiety is one of the Southside's great cultural landmarks — a Friday night there feels like proper Dublin.

Northside · Ballymun — Axis Theatre

If you have small ones, Sm(All) Folk Festival is on at Axis, Ballymun this weekend. A joyful programme of theatre created especially for children and young audiences — playful, imaginative, accessible and affordable shows for kids of all backgrounds and abilities. It's exactly the kind of thing the Northside needs more of, and Axis consistently delivers brilliant community-centred work. axis-ballymun.ie for the full schedule.

Southside · Ballsbridge · RDS — LAST DAY

Today is the final day of the National Education Show at the RDS — back after nearly two decades away. Teachers, school leaders and education professionals from across Ireland have been gathering since Friday for CPD workshops, expert talks and 80+ education suppliers. If you're a teacher or school leader and haven't made it yet, it wraps up today. nationaleducationshow.ie 🏫

Dublin-Wide · Energy Prices

A week on from our big heating oil story, prices are still elevated but have stabilised somewhat after the spike. The Farmers Journal reported this week that Ireland's slow energy transition is leaving the country "exposed" to international oil market shocks, something Dublin households already know from their heating bills. The Government's letter to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission is still the only action taken. Opposition TDs want a windfall tax on energy companies making excess profits. Nothing's changed yet, but the pressure is mounting.

Southside · Dún Laoghaire — Tonight

For the second consecutive weekend, The Frank and Walters are playing Walters in Dún Laoghaire, the Cork indie legends in an intimate venue right on the Southside coast. If you missed last weekend's show, tonight is your second chance. And honestly, seeing The Frank and Walters in a small Dún Laoghaire venue on a spring Saturday evening sounds just about perfect. Tickets at ticketmaster.ie. 🎵

👋 WRAP UP

Get out there today. Seriously — 14°C, barely a cloud, and the first full Saturday of spring. Go down to the Liffey for the boat race this morning, take a walk in Marlay Park or along Dollymount Strand this afternoon, get to Kesha or Sigrid or The Crucible or Tony Cantwell in Howth tonight. Dublin is absolutely at its best this weekend and it would be a shame to waste it. 🌸

Back tomorrow morning with your Sunday edition. Have a brilliant one. ☀️
